the september issue
my father definitely shaped who i am today. i had no cable television when i was growing up so i watched jeopardy and sports as a young child; now i love shouting out answers, playing scrabble, and watching sports. my evening treat consisted of two chocolate bars; now i love food - especially chocolate - and am prone to getting cavities. my father used to drag me to bookstores and he would stand in the math section for hours while i wandered around; now i love to wander off to look at, purchase, or read a variety of books. oddly enough, my father would also regularly buy me issues of vogue - unsolicited; no wonder i am fascinated with layout, fonts, fashion, anna wintour, magazines, and photography.

the september issue is undoubtedly the best movie i have seen in years. witty, charming, funny, interesting, and full of character. it is a short movie at around 90 minutes but it leaves you wanting more. the boy and i chattered about the movie all the way home. i am buying this on blu-ray the minute it comes out. it fills me with excitment and inspires me to be a better photographer.

when i read front row by jerry oppenheimer earlier this spring, i learned a lot about anna wintour and a little about grace coddington.
from the book, i did not realize that grace coddington was behind many of the best shoots at vogue. the september issue is as much about her as it is about anna wintour. grace has an amazing eye and her work is simply incredible. when i checked out the vogue website, i was happy to learn that grace coddington and annie leibovitz worked on the december spread together! i am currently also obsessed with annie leibovitz - not so much with her photos but her work style. there's something about seeing a seasoned pro in action.
