a short expedition
on sunday, the boy and i went on a short photo expedition so i could test out the 100 lens again. i am happy to report that the images were much improved. using this lens is now fun rather than stressful. we walked along king street to see if we could find the yard sale with the vintage tripod - i wanted to check it out - but alas there were no sales set up. i took this photo of the boy in a park on the way there - it's got some funny shadows but i like his expression and the bokeh.
after we window shopped a bit along queen street, we realized our tummies were growling and the boy was craving japanese food. i wanted to go somewhere we've never been so we tried ho su on queen street. this is quite a popular japanese & korean eatery that we've been curious about and meaning to try. our table was a little sticky and the interior wasn't all that pretty so we weren't expecting much. the boy ordered a sashimi and california roll set and i ordered the bulgogi. we got three little korean appetizers - my favourites were the beans and the spicy potatoes. i didn't try the kimchi because i don't like the stuff.
the portions were huge - i got a biiig serving of glass noodles, easily 4-5 times the average serving. i was happy because i love glass noodles. in my box were glass noodles, bulgogi, rice, beansprouts and carrots, a floret of broccoli, and coleslaw. i also got miso soup and salad. the noodles and veggies were slightly oily but everything was very tasty! the boy got huuuuge pieces of red tuna and fairly sizeable pieces of salmon and white tuna. in his box were sashimi, california rolls, salad, and beansprouts and carrots. he also got miso soup. the sashimi looked fresh and he said it was.
after our late lunch, we went home to pick up the boy's camera and headed over to 401 richmond street, where we also had some of our engagement photos done. i was hoping the rooftop garden would be open but unfortunately not. there wasn't much to photograph but we managed to find a few things.
i took a few photos of the boy through the floor of a fire escape and the lens focused so quickly!

as we were leaving, i saw some police tape tied casually in a random spot. it looked so out of place.
when we passed by the new boutique condo development near tinkle, i spied a little bug on the ad screen.
have you noticed my recent appreciation of the cn tower? a few months ago, the boy told me that there was a man outside mountain equipment co-op who set up a tripod every day to take photos of the cn tower in the reflection of the pink building across from tinkle. he was there every day to get the photo "just so" but it kept eluding him. not immediately after that, but rather more recently when i've been trying to take clean photos without the ecletic mess of city buildings, i've found myself framing the cn tower more often in my shots.
just before we stepped into tinkle, i took a photos of the rubble that has begun to pile up on charlie's future site. the construction team will be starting to dig soon and i think it's exciting to capture a condo's birth from the very beginning. too bad i don't have that many good ones of tinkle - i would blow them up and frame them.
