goals, planning, and seeing the light again
for the past couple of years, i've been so focused on the photography business - concentrating simultaneously on perfecting my technique while trying to find a way to capture real emotion in a short amount of time - that i've neglected what is most dear to my heart. documenting the people closest to me... my friends, family, and hubby. the worst thing about this is that i knew this was happening yet nothing changed. i voiced numerous times the irony that i actually took fewer photos of those around me after i became more interested in photography. i noticed this fairly early on but still i did nothing. i figured life was just running its course and i had simply moved on to different interests.
looking back at the reason behind the shift in focus, i'm not sure if it's because i started looking down on the point-and-shoot camera and on the lowly snapshot. or perhaps it's because i found a greater interest in new subjects... people who i did not see on a regular basis. whatever the reason, i feel like there were two dark years in my visual history. too many events that went uncaptured. too many everyday occurrences that will remain forever forgotten. yes, life will surely run its course... and it won't rewind just so i can go back and take a photo to remember.
as i reflected on what i wanted to accomplish for 2012, i knew that i wanted to start capturing more personal moments again... whether it be a special occasion or just an average wednesday. for this reason, i am starting a photo-a-day project of the boy and me. i'll also be picking up the slack by taking more photos with friends and family... but i figured a 366 project of my hubby and me would be easy since we see each other every day! anyway, here are the snapshots i took for the first 6 days of the new year. they are silly and imperfect... #1 is blurry, my chicken wing looks horribly deformed in #3, i clearly used the ugly maker in #4, and our skin tone is off in #6... but i don't care. these photos make me smile and, in 10 years, i doubt i will even notice the imperfections. i'll only see the joy, beauty, and light of being young and (relatively) carefree.
happy 2012!
